In the fall of 2014, Vicksburg Community Schools adopted a new math program called Eureka Math. “Eureka Math is a complete, PreK–12 curriculum and professional development platform. It follows the focus and coherence of the Common Core State Standards and carefully sequences the mathematical progressions into expertly crafted instructional modules. These resources are provided to VCS parents and guardians so that you may help to support your student in becoming successful in mathematics.
Encountering new curriculum is something we are all accustomed to in education; however, there are times when this change has a greater effect on all stakeholders; students, parents, and teachers. This year our shift in math changed significantly and laying the groundwork has been a critical step. Click the link for more information about Eureka Math.

Keeping Our Children Safe
Are your children safe while online? Michigan families, especially minors, are becoming inundated with advertisements from alcohol, tobacco, pornography and gambling marketers through different internet and cell phone in-boxes. Texting their advertisements is the newest marketing effort that many of these companies are using. Thankfully, the State of Michigan offers a free program to stop adult advertisements from reaching e-mails, mobile phones (text messaging ads) and instant messenger IDs. The Michigan Child Protection Registry, like the federal Do Not Call List, is a free do-not-contact service for Michigan’s families and schools and can be located at
As a strong supporter of this registry, I would like to encourage you to sign your entire family up for the registry and inform your friends and colleagues about how they can protect children and families from unwanted adult advertising. To sign up only takes seconds. Just go to www.ProtectMIChild.com and keep your family safe.
Below is a link to the Common Core Standards your children will be learning and how you can support that learning. These parent roadmaps, for each grade level, also provide three-year snapshots showing how selected standards progress from year to year so that students will be college and career ready upon their graduation from high school. We are asking that all students bring a pair of headphones in to school for use in the computer lab, as well as for using in the classrooms and other devices. Headphones will be labeled with student names and kept in Ziploc bags.
