Dear Parents,
Thank you for visiting Sunset Lake Elementary's web site. As you will see we have some of the best students, staff and parents in the world. As a team we work diligently to see that each child meets his/her potential.
In addition to lessons in social studies and science, our students have been working hard to improve their reading and writing skills, meet their AR goals and learn their math facts. Students are continuing to incorporate the virtues of Honesty, Caring, Respect, and Responsibility into their daily interactions.
Can you believe it is 2010 already? You will have to take a look at our MEAP scores, they are outstanding. We attribute these gains and excellent scores to the dedication of our staff and to the exceptional efforts of our students. During the next few months the teaching staff will be researching and celebrating the students strengths. We will also be researching and developing strategies for areas that would benefit from additional "strengthening ". As you can see, Sunset is a master at using data to drive instructional decisions.
"Lots" of learning will be take place. "Lots" of full will be had by all.
As always, thanks for your continued support.
As always, your support is always appreciated.
Respectfully,
Pat Moreno – Principal

Sunset Lake Student Council
Sunset Lake Student Council is asking students and families to join with Indian Lake & Tobey students & families to help support an orphanage in Haiti. You may have seen on Channel 3 last week that three girls from Tobey started a fundraiser for this orphanage due to one of the girls having a family member adopted from that particular orphanage. This started BEFORE the earthquake. God's
Littlest Angels is an American run, nondenominational Christian organization. They are located outside of the city so didn't receive as much damage to their buildings; however, they are concerned about the hundreds of orphans that will need care following the earthquake and are scrambling to get supplies so they can take care of more children.
In an effort to work together as a community, we are asking for your donations. Here at Sunset, there will be a large container in the office and individual containers in each classroom. Donations can be brought in at any time. Checks can be made out to Sunset Lake Elementary.
We are also supporting through "Hats for Haiti" on "Fridays in February." Students may wear a hat each Friday in February for a $1.00 donation. Donations should be paid in individual classrooms. If you have any questions, please
contact Chris Vander Mei or Terri Negri, Student Council Advisors.
Thank you for your support.
